Colon Cleansing

With the industrialization of our economy, our world, and even our food, it’s no wonder that each and every day we ingest hundreds of different kinds of chemicals, toxins, and man-made substances into our body.  Most of these substances end up in one place, our colons.  As these toxins build up, so does the level of toxicity in our bodies.  One of the best ways to detoxify our bodies is through colon cleansing.

Colon cleansing is a way to clean out years of abuse from drug use, environmental pollution, bad diets full of oxidized fat and cholesterol, free radicals, and any other substances that can make our colons get clogged and slow down.

Hippocrates Colon CleansedRecords of colon cleansing can be found all the way back to 1500 BC, and there are also stories of Hippocrates being known to have used an early form of colon cleansing.  Even Lewis and Clarke used a form of colon cleansing before they left on their adventure to discover the Pacific Northwest.  It’s no wonder then that colon cleansing has continued to be a popular method of improving health and staving off disease.

So why cleanse your colon?  Isn’t that what going to the bathroom does?  Well, defecation is one way that the body can cleanse the colon.  However, the colon many times is not able to fully cleanse itself.  Different substances and toxins can actually stay attached to the walls of the colon in the form of mucoid plaque.  This plaque can create just the right atmosphere for diseases and even cancer to form.  Using proper and sanitary colon cleansing procedures can help give your colon the boost it needs to fully clean itself out.

There are many different methods for colon cleansing.  Colon hydrotherapy is probably the most known and the most common. This is usually done through an enema with sterilized water injected through the anal cavity.  However, this has been a controversial subject as of late because of its risks and its devastating effect on the natural bacteria within the colon.  Regardless of this controversy, hydrotherapy is still a viable way to help cleanse your colon.

Raw Fruits and Vegetables

Another option is cleansing through a change in diet.  Much research has been done in recent years into what exact foods have a cleansing effect on the colon.  Diets rich in raw fruits and vegetables have been show to naturally help the cleansing process of the colon, as well as staying away from processed foods.  Periodic days of fasting may also be used for this method of cleansing.

Herbal cleansing has also become a popular option. P syllium, aloe, ginger, and cascara sagrada have all shown properties that help clean the colon and optimize it to work at full capacity.  Many herbs have also been shown to kill certain parasites and bacteria that can cause serious harm to your body.

Along with helping to cleanse your colon, staying hydrated can also optimize all the systems in your body.  It is recommended that you drink half of your body weight in ounces of water daily.  So for example if you weighed 130 pounds you would need to drink 65 ounces of water.  That may seem like a lot of water but remember that 65-70% of your body is made up of water.  Without adequate amount of hydration your body not only can’t function correctly, but it also may not provide enough liquid to be able to flush the toxins from your body.

There are so many different products on the market for colon cleansing nowadays that it is extremely important to watch your safety.  Never put anything into your body that you have no idea what it does or that could potentially be toxic to you.  It is also important to remember that while expelling the bad bacteria you need to be actively replenishing your probiotics, or healthy bacteria that help balance out your digestive system.  Do your research, protect yourself, and you, as well as your colon, will feel brand new by the time you finish your colon cleansing program.
